Malaysia, UAE sign MoU on data centers coop.

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- Malaysia and the UAE signed on Thursday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop cooperation and investments in the domain of data centers.

A statement by the Malaysian Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry revealed that that the MoU would boost strategic cooperation to develop data centers in Malaysia at a capacity of 500 megawatts.
The ministry said that the MoU came in line with both countries' commitment to boosting cooperation in various fields including digital infrastructure, which would enhance private sector investments and economic relations.
Malaysia is a regional hub for data centers in the Southeast Asia with around USD one trillion expected to be invested in this field by 2030.
The MoU with the UAE reflected Malaysia's commitment to boosting Artificial Intelligence technology (AI) in line with its new industrial plan of 2030, added the statement.
On his part, the UAE's Investment Minister Mohammad Al-Suwaid affirmed that the MoU's signing not only boost ties, it also took into consideration Malaysia's important status as the best option for establishing regional data centers in Southeast Asia and Pacific.
The deal would also boost internet commerce in the Southeast Asian region, he added, commending the strong commercial ties between the UAE and Malaysia. (end) aab.gta.
