Arab League hails African Union's G20 membership

CAIRO, Sept 10 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit welcomed on Sunday the G20 decision to grant the African Union its permanent membership to the group.

Abul-Gheit praised this decision calling it "correct", which will reflect positively on both sides.
He added that the decision contributes to strengthening the participation of African countries in decision-making and positions in global economy, as well as strengthening the ability of the African continent to contribute to resolving pivotal global issues such as climate change, energy and food security, and other important matters.
The Group of 20 (G20) members agreed yesterday to grant permanent membership to the AU in an effort to make the group more representative, at the inaugural session of the two-day G20 summit held in New Delhi, India, during the weekend. (end) mfm.asm.dh.bb.
